According to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, “There are more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States today.” And “While it’s tragic so many people have had breast cancer, the sheer number of survivors shows the great strides that have been made in early detection and treatment. Today, most breast cancer survivors lead long and fulfilling lives.” These ‘strides’ can be considered a joint effort in the scientists, doctors, students, educators, organizations like the Susan G. Komen foundation, everyday people donating time and money, as well as, businesses who create events and raise funds in the fight for a cure.
Rain Cosmetics is one of those businesses that has shown their true color is pink and joined in the fight for a cure. Over the weekend, Miss USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella, former Miss USA & television personality Shanna Moakler, and ‘Peepshow’ headliner Cheaza Figueroa all came out to the launch of Rain Cosmetics at Skins 6|2 Cosmetics inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas to join patrons in sharing hors d’oeuvres and bubbly from STK Las Vegas and receiving makeup applications from Rain Cosmetics while they shopped to support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Southern Nevada® chapter.

I’ve always found it amazing when you put a group of women into a room and get to know them, there always seems to be some sort of profound and uniting story or experience that seems to make everyone bond in a way that only a mother, daughter, sister, or best friend can. Campanella, Moakler, and Figueroa all have a unique experience and understanding of how breast cancer can affect a life.
For the reigning Miss USA, Alyssa Campanella, breast cancer hits close to home when only a year ago her grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer and more recently became “officially a survivor”. The experience has made Campanella “excited to participate more with breast cancer awareness organizations like Susan G. Komen because of that, because I want to share my story, and raise awareness and fund research.”
Shanna Moakler has enjoyed much success after earning the title of Miss USA over a decade ago. From modeling, acting in film and television, raising a family, and helping others fulfill their dreams in the beauty world as a co-producer for Miss California USA among others. Additionally, Moakler served as host of the E! reality show ‘Bridalplasty’. While the show was criticized for glamorizing plastic surgery by having brides compete in challenges to win plastic surgery and ultimately having one bride win her dream wedding, Moakler came to the shows’ participants defense. ”Some of them have lost their breasts to breast cancer [and undergoing a mastectomy] and want implants”. Moakler’s show although made for reality television did highlight in a docu-style to serve as a platform about plastic surgery as not a ‘vain’ procedure but rather a personal choice from very real and relatable experiences.
Cheaza Figueroa, has a very personal experience with cancer after being diagnosed and fortunately becoming a survivor. The ‘Peepshow’ starlet who has worked alongside Holly Madison, Aubrey O’Day and Sabrina Sloan is also a mother to a beautiful daughter and talented singer. Figueroa said at the Rain Cosmetics Launch ”I’m a survivor, and the way that I became confidant and positive is by being a part of events like this,” adding “It’s important to become a part of the community and to give back.”
Rain Cosmetics is truly an industry leader not only in cosmetics but in business as well. As important as it is for a business to create innovative and high-quality products, it’s equally important for businesses to create a sense of responsibility and ethics for the demographic it serves. Born and bred in Las Vegas, Rain Cosmetics caters to women of all skin tones and cares about issues that go further than skin deep, affecting women from all around the country. Rain Cosmetics has a truly wonderful team of makeup artists, artistry educators, brand ambassadors, vendors like Skins 6|2 Cosmetics, and at the helm of the brand is Lori Montoya who is the owner and co-founder of Rain Cosmetics.
Special thanks to Danielle Capps who is the wonderful Public Relations Director for the brand and knowledgeable team member who introduced me to all of what Rain Cosmetics has to offer.
